<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reversely rotate a recovery roller 65 independently, without reversely rotating a rotary brush 64, when the rotary brush 64 and the recovery roller 65 belong to a power transmission system 72 from the same drive source 71, in a cleaning device 12 removing and recovering a residue RE on an image carrier 6. <P>SOLUTION: The cleaning device 12 includes the rotary brush 64 rotationally driven while being in contact, to collect the residue RE on the image carrier 6 on the downstream side of a transfer position 11 on the image carrier 6, the recovery roller 65 rotationally driven while being in contact with the rotary brush 64, to recover the residue RE collected by the rotary brush 64, and a scraper 66 coming into contact with the recovery roller 65, to scrape the residue RE recovered to the recovery roller 65. The rotary brush 64 and the recovery roller 65 belong to the power transmission system 72 from the same drive source 71.
