The purpose of the present invention is to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which has excellent storage characteristics and cycle characteristics. The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the present invention is provided with a positive electrode that contains a lithium-containing transition metal complex oxide as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrode that contains a negative electrode active material, a separator that is arranged between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode contains lithium carbonate and lithium hydrogen carbonate in an amount of 500-3,000 ppm (inclusive) in total, and the weight loss in cases when the positive electrode is heated from 25°C to 300°C at a heating rate of 5°C/min is not more than 70% of the above-described total weight and not more than 1,500 ppm. In this connection, the nonaqueous electrolyte contains a nonaqueous solvent and a lithium salt, and the nonaqueous solvent may contain a cyclic carbonate and a chain carbonate.
