A hybrid vehicle generates vehicle drive power by the sum of the output torque of an MG (120) and the transmission torque directly transmitted mechanically from an engine (100) to a drive shaft (135) via a power division mechanism (130). A PM-ECU (170) selectively applies a travel mode for controlling the outputs of the engine (100) and the MG (120), and an S/D mode for setting the output torque of the MG (120) to zero and causing required drive force to be exerted on the drive shaft (135) by direct torque, so that the required drive force of the entire vehicle is exerted on the drive shaft (135). An MG-ECU (172) halts the operation of an electric power converter for controlling the output of the MG (120) when the S/D mode is applied. |
