A large, pasted semiconductor light-emitting element with reduced warpage and improved light extraction efficiency is provided. The semiconductor light-emitting element (1) includes: a semiconductor laminate (40) having a p-type semiconductor layer (43), an active layer (42), and an n-type semiconductor layer (41), laminated in that order; and a conductive supporting substrate (10) joined to the p-type semiconductor layer side (43) of the semiconductor laminate (40). The semiconductor laminate (40) is characterized by being separated into at least two semiconductor blocks (40a-40d) by a groove (2) that penetrates the p-type semiconductor layer (43), the active layer (42), and the n-type semiconductor layer (41).
