A broadcasting receiver and a method for setting a language mode are provided to prevent the language setting error by a user after the launch of a product, by setting and fixing a language to be used on an OSD(On Screen Display) menu before the launch of the product. A remote control signal receiver(110) receives a remote control signal from a remote control having a language setting command key. A storage unit(140) stores information on a plurality of usable languages. When a remote control signal corresponding to the language setting command key is received, an OSD processor(120) generates an OSD menu for selecting one of the usable languages and outputs the OSD menu on a screen. When a remote control signal of selecting a predetermined language on the screen is received through the remote control signal receiver, a controller(130) sets the selected language as an OSD display language, and controls the OSD processor(120) to display all OSD to be generated hereafter in the OSD display language. |
