PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a computer system and a computer program for determining an access sequence of a plurality of data groups stored on a tape medium.

SOLUTION: A data group in the plurality of data groups which has a beginning closest to a current position of the tape medium is selected as a first data group in the access sequence. A data group in the plurality of remaining data groups which has a beginning closest to an end of the first data group is selected as a second data group in the access sequence.
