<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of more efficiently detecting a defect of a magnetic disk device. <P>SOLUTION: A channel circuit comprises: detecting means for detecting a variation of amplitude being below a certain threshold value or exceeding the threshold value by sampling signal amplitude of a reproduced signal being written on a medium and having a single frequency pattern; and determining means for determining whether or not the reproduced signal can be decoded in a decoding circuit. In addition to the above, a defect detection method of a magnetic disk device has the channel circuit and uses first means for registering a sector, of which the variation of amplitude has been detected, as a defective sector and second means for registering an irreproducible sector as the defective sector. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
