Disclosed are a method and cell phone for capturing an audio or video file, relating to the technical field of communication. The method for capturing an audio or video file comprises: beginning to capture the audio or video file while playing the audio or video file when a long-press event on the track ball indicating the play progress is received; stopping the capture while capturing the audio or video file when a long-press event on the track ball indicating the play progress is received; and saving the captured audio or video file. Also provided is the corresponding cell phone. Employing the present invention can solve the problem of simply and quickly capturing audio or video files.
