Disclosed is a universal parking brake requiring neither an energy supplying apparatus nor a transmission apparatus. The brake is automatically triggered into a clutched braking state by the slipping force of a car. The braking state can be automatically disengaged by the driving torque of the car, thus preventing the car from slipping. The brake is conceived on the basis of an overrunning clutch mechanism having a sprocket or a reciprocating member. When in a non-parked state, the mechanism acts as a transmission apparatus for transmitting driving torque, the driving torque is input by the reciprocating member (30) and output by a guiding member (50). Also, at least when in a parked state, a friction member (70) is prevented from rotating. Also disclosed is a method for operating the parking brake. The method is simple to operate and obviates the need for any human intervention. In the method, when the rotational speed of a driving shaft of the car is detected to be equal to zero, the parking brake is continuously engaged; and when the acceleration pedal of the car is detected to be pressed, the parking brake is continuously disengaged. The parking brake provides the ideal parking braking capability, load-bearing capability, and service life.
|
