A lathe box tool comprises a body 11, Fig. 1, a cutting bit 14, pivoted to the body at 22, and at least one work burnishing roller 15 carried in a support 20 adjustable relative to work axis 16. In operation, workpiece 13 is rotated and fed into body 11, and bit 14 is turned in a clockwise direction until tool carrier 21 engages a stop 25, the work is machined, and is burnished by roller 15. The work is then retracted from body 11, and bit 14 pivots away from the work. In a modification. Figs. 4, 5, there are two burnishing rollers 15, 15<SP>1</SP>, carried by adjustable carriers 20, 20<SP>1</SP>, and bit 14 is clamped in a slot 32 in a carrier 21 between an arcuate pad 33 and screws 34. Carrier 21 is pivoted at 22, and the pivotal movement is limited by stops 36, 38. |
