摘要 The invention provides a solution to deep drilling problems, drilling "U-shaped" boreholes and issues with fitting a pipe into a borehole. This device is targeted to provide a solution to harness geothermal energy. The drilling robot consists of detachable drilling head, motor section, steerable section and propulsion section. The design is modular and the mentioned sections (except the drill head) can be used more than one time to provide an optimal drilling platform for a specific task. The drill head uses either laser or hot gas to melt through the rock. Motion is done by the use of hydraulics and expanding the diameter of the robot to grip on the borehole's wall. The diameter of the drill head is larger than the diameter of the robot, and if attached, the pipe behind the robot has smaller diameter than the drill head and larger than the robot's main body. This ensures that the robot's body can be rescued if drilling fails.
