<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lip seal with a structure appropriately adjusting the contact condition actively according to environment and the wear condition of the lip seal. <P>SOLUTION: The lip seal includes: a lip part 1 that forms a ring shape as a singularity or plurality, the lip part coming into sliding contact around the entire circumference of the surface of a shaft 0; an elastic arm part 2 and a flexible wall 3 for supporting the lip part 1 at a sliding contact position; and a key part 4 for linking the elastic arm part 2 and the flexible wall 3 to a housing 10. A ring-shaped pressure-adjusting chamber A is formed as a singularity or plurality using the elastic arm part 2 and the flexible wall 3 as a partition, and pressurization/depressurization in the pressure-adjusting chamber A causes the flexible wall 3 to be deformed and the lip part 1 to change at least in the radial direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
