<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic sensor and a magnetic head which are suitable for mass production and can raise output in such a structure that a magnetic flux from a minute area can be detected. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic sensor 1 includes: a main channel layer 7a which has a first area 71, a second area 72, and a third area 73 and extends in a first direction; a first ferromagnetic layer 12A laminated on the first area 71; a second ferromagnetic layer 12B laminated on the second area 72; a projection channel layer 7b which projects in the direction perpendicular to the thickness direction of the main channel layer 7a from the side of the third area 73 between the first area 71 and the second area 72 in the main channel layer 7a; and a magnetic shield S which covers both sides in the thickness direction of the projection channel layer 7b and both sides in the first direction of the projection channel layer 7b, and exposes an end surface 7c in the projection direction of the projection channel layer 7b.
