<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens unit having a compact and low-cost lens barrier and an imaging apparatus including the lens unit. <P>SOLUTION: A barrier unit is downsized by installing a forcible stop part of a gear inside a projection area of the gear. Also, by installing the forcible stop part of the gear inside a projection area of the gear, the range (angle) for teeth arrangement is increased, and by installing the gear forcible stop part outside the range of the rotation path of switch contact ribs, the rotation angle is increased. As the rotation stroke is increased, there is no need of accurate detection.
