The method includes the steps of: acquiring the answering distance between a mobile terminal and a user when the user makes a video call using the mobile terminal; comparing the answering distance with the pre-stored distance threshold of the mobile terminal to acquire the comparison result; controlling the switching of the mobile terminal between the first video call mode and the second video call mode according to the comparison result. The present invention can control the video call method of the mobile terminal flexibly according to the answering method of the user, making it convenient for the user to use, improving the user experience on the mobile terminal, and aiding the development of mobile terminal technology.
