<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber preform producible of a longer optical fiber preform wherein structural change is prevented in a cross section orthogonal to the longitudinal direction, and a method for producing an optical fiber using the optical fiber preform. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the optical fiber preform 10P includes: a preparing process of preparing an intermediate preform having a cladding glass body 12P; a chucking process of chucking a drill tool 50; and a perforating process of forming a hole in the cladding glass body 12P. The chucking process and the perforating process are alternately repeated several times. In the chucking process, a distance from the end of the drill tool 50 to the end of a drill chuck 40 is increased in every chucking process, while a distance L2 from the upper surface of the intermediate preform to the distal end of the drill chuck 40 is set to be shorter than the length of the intermediate preform. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
