<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner capable of properly controlling equipment protection while improving energy saving performance. <P>SOLUTION: A control unit 41, in order to limit the maximum capability of air conditioning under a maximum capability limit control command, performs maximum capability limit control to reduce maximum rotational speed which is allowed to a compressor.
