<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable more proper extent management to be performed according to a situation of data arrangement in a logical disk by a host device. <P>SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, a host device comprises data arrangement analysis means which detects first size of continuous used areas on a logical disk and second size of continuous non-used areas on the logical disk, and based on the detected first and second sizes, detects an extent size suitable for a situation of using the logical disk of the host device to notify an array controller in a disk array device of the detected extent size.
