The invention relates to an endoscope (1) having a shaft tube (2) through which a fibre tube (20) runs which surrounds an image conductor (4) with a distal objective (6, 8), wherein an optical fibre bundle (13) is disposed in the free cross-section (21, 22) between the fibre tube (20) and the shaft tube (2), wherein said endoscope is characterised in that the fibre tube (20) has an elongate cross-section.
