<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new agents and methods for the prevention and treatment of iron metabolism disorders. <P>SOLUTION: The methods for regulating hepcidin expression or activity in a subject includes a step of administering to the subject an effective amount of a compound that modulates the signaling activity of at least one TGF-β superfamily member, thereby regulating the hepcidin expression or activity in a subject.
