<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem relating to the degradation of optical coupling loss in an optical waveguide device. <P>SOLUTION: An optical waveguide device includes a light emitting element having a light emitting part for emitting laser light and a light receiving element having a light receiving part for receiving laser light, on a mounting substrate in parallel and includes a first lens for optically coupling the laser light from the light emitting part with a first waveguide core and a second lens for causing the light receiving part to optically couple laser light conducted through a second waveguide core, in parallel. The light emitting element is a surface light emission semiconductor laser which has a transparent semiconductor substrate having an active layer as the light emitting part laminated thereon and emits laser light from the active layer through the transparent semiconductor substrate. In the case that the surface light emission semiconductor laser and the light receiving element are constituted so that, when they are placed on a flat surface, height positions of the active layer and the light receiving part with respect to the flat surface are different, the active layer is located at a focus position of the first lens, and the light receiving part is located at a focus position of the second lens. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
