METHOD FOR REPLICATING INFLUENZA VIRUS IN CULTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for replicating influenza viruses in a culture.

SOLUTION: The invention is related to a method for selecting an influenza virus for growth on tissue culture cells to produce a tissue-culture adapted viral isolate. The invention also includes vaccines produced from the isolate. The present invention relates to vaccines for the prevention of influenza A and B infections. The vaccines and the related methods provide a number of advantages over prior art vaccines and methods. For example, the vaccines are produced using the tissue culture cells instead of embryonated eggs. The inventive production methods save critical time by bypassing the classical vaccine manufacture procedure. In addition, the vaccines are useful for those that are allergic to egg material. The present invention also provides new immunogenic compositions that may be used in the vaccines.
