A cartridge assembly for use with a drug delivery device (100) comprises: a cartridge holder (104, 300, 500, 700, 900) defining an aperture (507, 703,903) therethrough, with a blocking feature and at least one holder coding feature (310, 312, 513, 724, 924); and a cartridge (120, 200, 400, 600, 800) with at least one cartridge coding feature (216, 416, 610, 810); wherein when the cartridge (120, 200, 400, 600, 800) is inserted into the cartridge holder (104, 300, 500, 700, 900), the cartridge coding feature (216, 416, 610, 810) mates with the holder coding feature (310, 312, 513, 724, 924), moving the blocking feature or allowing the blocking feature to move.
