The opto-electronic sensor (10) has a light emitter (12) for sending a light ray (16) in a monitored area (22) and a light receptor (28) for producing a received signal from a light ray (26). A deflecting system (20) has a main zone and another zone, for turning the remitted light ray to a light receptor. The system is movable, particularly a rotating mirror. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing information about objects in a monitored area.
