An endovascular cryogenic system for effecting a predetermined cooling treatment of a diseased region of a patient body, the predetermined cooling treatment comprising cooling the diseased region for a time in a predetermined range, the system comprising: an endovascular catheter having an elongate flexible body with a proximal end and a distal end with a balloon near the distal end; a single-use cartridge comprising a cooling fluid container and cryogenic cooling fluid disposed within the container, the cooling fluid having a quantity sufficient for effecting the predetermined cooling treatment only once; and a cooling fluid path from the container to the balloon, the path having a seal, cooling fluid flow advancing along the path and into the balloon so as to inflate the balloon and effect the predetermined cooling treatment a single time after the seal is opened.
