<p>A method and system for providing content to a user are provided, in which the user may access additional content by selecting alerts displayed during the reproduction of a media item. By selecting the alert, the user can cause reproduction of the video item to pause and the additional content to be retrieved using a single input. In preferred embodiments, the media item is a video item, and the additional content relates to the subject matter of the video item at the time the selectable alert is displayed.
