PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for measuring the residual life of a battery are provided to accurately estimate the residual life of a storage battery using the average value of first and second residual lifetimes. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for measuring the residual life of a battery comprises a discharge voltage measuring unit(12), a discharge curve database(30), first and second residual lifetime calculating units(20,21), and a main controller(40). The discharge voltage measuring unit measures the discharge voltage of a storage battery. The discharge curve database stores a plurality of reference discharge voltage curves. The first residual lifetime calculating unit calculates a first residual lifetime by calculating the residual time from an extracted reference discharge voltage curve to a predetermined cut-off voltage. The second residual lifetime calculating unit calculates a second residual lifetime based on the residual capacity of the storage battery, which is calculated from a predetermined measurement voltage range on the extracted reference discharge voltage curve. The main controller calculates the final residual lifetime of the storage battery based on the average value of the first and second residual lifetimes.
