PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of measuring a groundwater level of the ground accurately and efficiently, in an easy operation and a simple device configuration. SOLUTION: A hollow rod 1 having transverse holes 11 disposed at prescribed intervals in the length direction such that its inner and outer sides are in communication with each other, is brought to vertically penetrate the ground G at a prescribed depth, and then a measuring insulated cable 3A which is connected to a measuring instrument 4A having a function of detecting a change in an electric resistance, is inserted into the hollow rod 1. When an electrode 31a on the leading side of the insulated cable 3A reaches a water surface WF of ground water W entering the hollow rod 1, the change in the electric resistance between electrodes is detected, and the groundwater level WL is measured based on the insertion length of the insulated cable 3A at the detection timing.
