<p>A diesel fuel oil composition having a decreased ability to form smoke on combustion comprises a mixture of hydrocarbons the bulk of which have boiling points below about 300 DEG C. and 0.02-0.10 % wt., based on the entire composition of a C12- 18 straight chain saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid, e.g. lauric, palmitic or stearic acid. The fuel may also contain a cetane-number improver, e.g. amyl or isopropyl nitrate, or nitro-methane.</p> |
