A mechanism for use with a bed or reclining chair, comprising a plurality of interconnecting components in pivotal communication with one or more platforms forming the bed or recliner. The mechanism further comprises a drive means and is operable to move a bed or recliner between (a) an upright position to form a seating arrangement and (b) a substantially horizontal position to form a bed arrangement. The mechanism preferably consists of a single drive means. The mechanism also preferably comprises a mid-section 2 and upper and lower pivoting sections 1, 3, wherein the upper and lower sections are pivotable between a substantially horizontal to a substantially vertical orientation.
