A process for expelling moisture from a rubbery diene homopolymer in crumb form comprises adding a sufficient quantity of cool water to a hot water slurry of the crumb to reduce the temperature of the slurry to from 65 to 105 DEG F., separating free water from the cooled slurry and passing the crumb to a demoisturing zone. Specified homopolymers are cis, or trans-1-4 polybutadiene or 1-4-polyisoprene. The cooled crumb slurry may be passed to a moisture expeller and then to an expander-dryer within the demoisturing zone. Apparatus for carrying out the process is described. |
