The forks 12a, 12b of a fork lift truck extend transversely across the front of the truck and are mounted on a carriage which is movable along transverse guides 37 mounted on the lifting carriage on the mast 11. Each fork comprises an L-shaped member, Fig. 3, secured to a hub. member 15 which is rotatable on a shaft 18 secured to a plate 23, whereby the forks can be rotated through ninety degrees to extend to either side of the truck, the plate 23 being provided with rollers 32 which engage in upper and lower channel members 37 mounted on the lifting carriage. A stop-plate 26 engages the upright portion of fork 12a to prevent the horizontal portions of the forks from tipping downwardly. Upper and lower pinions on the shafts of guide rollers 32 engage racks, Fig. 4 (not shown), on bars 36 secured to the channel members 37 to maintain the rollers 32 in vertical alignment. |
