<p>Phenol is prepared by reacting in the vapour state, and in presence of a known chlorinated benzenoid hydrocarbon hydrolysis catalyst, monochlorobenzene and water, at an elevated temperature under a pressure of at least 1.5 atm. up to the pressure at which one of the reactants condenses at operating temperature. The catalyst is preferably tricalcium phosphate, optionally mixed with copper phosphate.</p> |
