A resilient spring for vehicles comprises a cylindrical outer guide 1, a rubber or like spring element 4 tightly slidingly mounted in the outer guide and bearing on a ring 3 and a guide tube 5 passing partially through the spring element, a plate 6 integral with or secured to the guide tube 5 bearing on the spring element at the side remote from the ring 3. In the construction shown (Fig. 3) a second spring element 7 is attached to a tube 8 by vulcanization. A second plate 9 is provided on the guide tube 5 and co-operates with the second spring element 7 when the deflection stage of the first spring element 4 has been completed. A solid baffle spring may be provided in the base of tube 8 co-operating with a plate attached to the end of the guide tube 5 (Fig. 2, not shown). The first spring element may be held in the outer guide tube 1 by a demountable ring (Fig. 4, not shown). In the construction shown in Fig. 6 two spring elements 4, 7 are housed in series in outer guides 1, 2 the plate and inner guide tube comprising a member 16. The two guides 1, 2 are connected by a bolt 18 and surrounded by a compression spring 19. Two spring elements may also be mounted in an outer guide, the elements abutting a ring provided in the central portion of the guide (Fig. 5, not shown). In the embodiment shown in Fig. 8 the plate 6 is carried by a series of plates 6a, 6b, 6c of increasing diameters which engage the spring element 4 in compression to produce a predetermined deformation. The spring element 4 is held by support rings 22, 23, a downwardly projecting pin 24 possessing a plastic bushing limiting the tilting of the guide tube 5. The support rings 22, 23 and pin 24 may be omitted from the construction, a second rubber spring element being provided mounted on the cover of the outer guide (Fig. 7, not shown). The pin 24 may be replaced by a pipe through which passes a bolt attached to a disc held within guide tube 5, the bolt passing through the cover of the outer guide and its head engaging the cover (Fig. 9, not shown).
