PURPOSE: A cooking apparatus and an operation method thereof are provided to evenly heat food for a short period of time by heating the food with microwaves having high heating efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A cooking apparatus comprises a cavity(134), a microwave generating unit(110), a field control unit(610), an antenna unit, and a switch unit(620). The microwave generating unit generates and outputs microwaves to the cavity. The field control unit controls the frequencies of the micro waves generated from the microwave generating unit. The antenna unit is placed inside the cavity. The antenna unit emits the microwaves to the inside of the cavity. The switch unit divides a path for transmitting the microwaves. The microwave generating unit comprises a power supply unit and a microwave controller(350). The micro wave controller controls the frequencies by controlling the field control unit and the switch unit. The power supply unit supplies the operational power of the microwaves.
