PURPOSE: A side trimmer control device and a controlling method using the same are provided to immediately detect wear of a side trimmer knife or breakage of teeth and inform to a driver, thereby preventing additional defects. CONSTITUTION: A side trimmer controlling method is as follows. Images of an edge cut face of a steel sheet(1) cut by a side trimmer are obtained. Positions of an upper knife(2) and lower knife(4) of the side trimmer are adjusted using the obtained images of the cut face.
