PURPOSE: A method for operating a motor protection device is provided to normally protect a load even though a body unit is separated from a setting device. CONSTITUTION: One or more setting values about a load are provided(S330). A motor is driven according to the setting values(S370). It is determined whether a setting device is separated(S380). A body unit senses the abnormality of the load. If the load is abnormal, the body unit provides abnormal information of the load to a user. The motor is stopped by changing an inner contact from a closed state to an open state(S460).
