A buckle comprises side frame members 22 and 23 (not shown), means 21 for securing a length of webbing 10 to the buckle, a pressure plate 30 rigidly mounted on the buckle between the side frame members, an eccentric plate 41 pivotally mounted between the side frame members in spaced relationship to the pressure plate, and having a corrugated surface 42 in juxtaposition to the pressure plate, spaced apart rocker arms 50 and 51 (not shown) pivotally mounted on the side frame-members, one end of the rocker arms being adapted to engage the eccentric plate, and a bar 54 mounted transversely between the rocker arms, the arrangement being such that in use of the buckle, a length of webbing 71 may be passed over the bar, under the pressure plate and then up and back in the opposite direction between the latter and the corrugated surface and, when so passed tension in the webbing urges the rocker arms in a direction such that the eccentric plate is urged by the engagement therewith of the rocker arms in a direction tightening the grip of the corrugated surface against the webbing and pressure plate and such that tension on the webbing also tends to pivot the eccentric plate in a direction tightening the clamping grip.
