PURPOSE: A banknote discrimination apparatus using a contact image sensor module is provided to simultaneously sense reflected and transmitted lights of banknotes using a single light-receiving sensor. CONSTITUTION: A banknote discrimination apparatus comprises a first and a second contact image sensor module(210,220), a database(250) storing reference values for determining the kind and authenticity of banknotes, a central processor(260) which outputs classification values of banknotes by combining information and determines the kind and authenticity of the banknote, a memory(240) storing the values output from the central processor, and a display part(230) outputting the determination results of the central processor.
