Class 23 Solids are removed from the wall of a rotating basket by a scraper movable outwardly to and axially along the basket wall, the scraper being power operated by yieldable means which override means biassing the scraper inwardly. The scraper 20 is carried by a square shaft 21 slidable in a housing 72 pivoted at 70 to the basket curb 14. The housing is swung, to move the scraper outwardly, by the action of an air pressed plunger 74. The outward movement of the scraper is opposed by a resilient buffer 75 and a return spring 88, a stop 72a being provided to prevent damage of the basket wall. The upward and downward movement of the scraper is given by a plunger 94 working in a double-acting air cylinder 92 mounted on the housing. The scraper is detachably coupled to the plunger 94, and may be held in its upper position by a ledge 102 in the event of a failure of the air supply. The movements of the scraper are automatically controlled by an electrical circuit having timers operating solenoid controlled air valves, flow controls being incorporated in the air supply lines so that the outward movement of the scraper is slower than its inward movement, and the downward movement of the scraper is slower than its upward movement.</p> |
