PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to reduce the number of processes when a lower substrate is formed, thereby saving manufacturing costs. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of pixel areas are defined on a substrate by a data line and a gate line. An active layer is formed on each pixel area of the substrate. A gate electrode includes multi patterns. The multi patterns are overlapped with the active layer. An insulating layer is placed between the multi patterns and the active layer. A data electrode is electrically connected to the active layer. The multi patterns are formed by a gate pattern(280) which has compensation patterns.
