A smoking article comprising fibers which comprise a polymer blend of poly(vinylacetate) and poly(acrylic acid)

Disclosed is a melt-spun fibre which comprises a polymer blend of poly(vinylacetate) in an amount ranging between about 20 wt% and about 80 wt%, and poly(acrylic acid) in an amount ranging between about 80 wt% and about 20 wt%, based on the total weight of the blend, wherein the fiber has cells therein and at least some of the cells form an interconnected network within the fiber. Further disclosed is a smoking article (such as a cigarette) which comprises: (a) a rod of smokable material, and (b) a filter material which comprises a fibre as defined above disposed at one end of the rod, and wherein the fibre has a hollow core containing a flavourant.
