PURPOSE: A negative electrode active material and secondary battery using thereof are provided to remarkably enhance manufacturing process and to minimize degradation of battery life and electric conductivity. CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode active material comprises a core including crystalline carbon-based material and composite coating layer. The composite coating layer comprises low crystalline carbon, one or more materials selected from amorphous carbon, and hydrophilic material including oxide capable of absorbing and emitting ion. The composite coating has a structure which filler is included in matrix. The matrix comprises one or more of low crystalline carbon and amorphous carbon and one component which is selected from silicon oxide.
