The invention discloses the process of racemization of enantiomeric (S)-nicotine with the use of metallic compound as catalyst. It can be achieved by the use of catalytic amount of catalyst or by forming of a complex with subsequent hydrolysis. The invention refers also to an isolation process of of pure recemic nicotine with the use of chromatography.
