The commutator (1') has an axis (XX) of axial symmetry, and electrically insulating parts (20, 22) at its rear. An internal bore is mounted on a shaft (2) of a rotary electric machine e.g. starter alternator of a motor vehicle. A commutator element is provided in the former of a slip ring that is electrically conductive connection element (14a). Another commutator element (10b) is provided integral with another electrically conductive electrical connection element (14b) adjacent to a rear end of the commutator, where the latter commutator element is radially oriented. An independent claim is also included for a rotary electric machine comprising a brush.
