PURPOSE: A cutting insert and a cutting tool equipped with the cutting insert are provided to improve the stiffness of the edge portion of the cutting insert by forming corner flanks. CONSTITUTION: A cutting insert(100) comprises first and second surfaces(110, 110a), upper and lower cutting edges(130, 140), a joint hole(120), corners(160), lateral sides(150), upper and lower flanks(170, 180), and corner flanks(160a, 160b). The first and second surfaces are formed in upper and lower sides into the polygonal shape. The cutting edges are respectively formed at the corner of the first and second surfaces. The joint hole is vertically formed to the first and second surfaces, and connected to a joint bolt. The corners connect the edges of the first and second surfaces. The lateral sides are formed more deeply than the surface of the corners. The upper flank is formed in the upper cutting edge and the lateral sides. The lower flank is formed in the lower cutting edge and the lateral sides. The upper and lower flanks improve cutting performance. The first and second corner flanks are formed in the corners and the lateral sides, and guide cut chips. The first and second corner flanks discharge cut chips.
