The invention relates to liquid filters (1), in particular oil filters or fuel filters for an internal combustion engine, comprising a housing (2) having a removable cover (21), an inlet (10') for liquid to be filtered that opens into an unfiltered side (10) of the liquid filter (1), an outlet (11') for filtered liquid that starts from a filtered side (11) of the liquid filter (1), a replaceable filter insert (3), which separates the unfiltered side (10) and the filtered side (11) from each other and which comprises a hollow cylindrical filter material element (30) enclosed at the end faces by two end disks (31, 32), and a filter bypass valve (5), which consists of a valve seat (50) arranged on the filter insert (3) and a valve body (53) that interacts with the valve seat (50) and that is acted upon by a preload force in the closing direction. Two closed sealing contours (51, 52) arranged one inside the other as viewed in the radial direction are provided between the valve seat (50) and the valve body (53). At least one bypass channel (35'), which connects the unfiltered side (10) and the filtered side (11) of the liquid filter (1) while bypassing the filter material element (30), passes through the valve seat (50) between the sealing contours (51, 52). A liquid filter (1) according to the invention is characterized in that the valve body (53) is movably guided in the filter housing (2) on a filter housing part, in that the two sealing contours (51, 52) are offset from each other in the axial direction, and in that the valve body (53) has a corresponding conical or tapered or dome-like shape in the sealing area (53') of the valve body that interacts with the sealing contours (51, 52).
