PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a controlling method thereof are provided to reduce power requested from sampling of a power consumption measurement value while maintaining the accuracy of power consumption information. CONSTITUTION: A memory unit(320) memorizes power consumption information of an image forming apparatus in a power saving mode. A controlling unit(310) calculates the amount of power consumption of the image forming apparatus. The image forming apparatus is in an operation mode. The controlling unit calculates the amount of power consumption of the image forming apparatus based on power consumption information.
