<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side view type light emitting device which suppresses the decrease of luminous energy and the deterioration of strength, and to provide a manufacturing method of the light emitting device. <P>SOLUTION: In a light emitting device 100, a first lead 40 has a first terminal part 42 exposed from a compact 30 in a border of a bottom surface 20A, a rear surface 20D, and a first side surface 20E<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, and a second lead 50 has a second terminal part 52 exposed from the compact 30 in a border of a bottom surface 20A, a rear surface 20D, and a second side surface 20E<SB POS="POST">2</SB>. The first lead 40 has a first terminal recessed part 42S, and the second lead 50 has a second terminal recessed part 52S.
