<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulation abnormality diagnosis method and an insulation abnormality diagnostic device for electrical equipment capable of securely determining the presence or absence of an insulation abnormal place by detecting UV light. <P>SOLUTION: The insulation abnormality diagnosis method for electrical equipment according to this embodiment is provided with following procedures. First, time series data showing in time series the number of times for detecting UV for each predetermined time interval are calculated for a plurality of time intervals having different lengths from each other, from data of the number of times for detecting UV acquired over a predetermined measurement period. Subsequently, each time zone in which each of the plurality of calculated time series data is equal to or more than the individually set threshold number of times is calculated. When there is a period in which all the calculated time zones overlap, the overlap period is determined as a sudden increase period in which the number of times for detecting UV has suddenly increased. When there is no period in which all the calculated time zones overlap, it is determined that there is no sudden increase period.
